Don 3: Farhan Akhtar Opens Up About Picking Ranveer Singh For Franchise Reboot

Farhan Akhtar recently confirmed that he will be commencing the shooting of his next directorial venture Don 3 in the first half of next year. Now, the actor-director has spilt more beans regarding his upcoming action thriller. In a recent interview, Farhan shared why he chose Ranveer Singh over Shah Rukh Khan, who headlined Don and Don 2. He even revealed that SRK was not his first choice when he thought of remaking Amitabh Bachchan's 1978 classic movie, Don.

Why did Farhan Akhtar choose Ranveer Singh for Don 3?

During a recent podcast, Farahn was asked why he hadn't thought of a trilogy with SRK. To this, Farhan said that the script of Don 3 required a "next-generation actor" and this is the reason why he picked Ranveer as he is a "charming," "mischievous," and "energetic" person. He further elaborated that the Simmba actor hasn't performed a role like he will be portraying in the third installment of Don and is still "untapped" in a certain aspect.

"Don requires a very different performance from him. There is a certain holding inside him (Ranveer) that is needed, which I don't think he has done. So I think it is a nice challenge for him to be able to do it," Farhan added.

Not SRK, THIS actor was the first choice for Don reboot

In the same conversation, Farhan revealed that Hrithik Roshan was his first choice for Don. He revealed that he and Hrithik had an "incredible" and "wonderful time" during the shooting of Lakshya. So when he thought of remaking Don, he reached out to Hrithik and shared the idea. The War actor liked the idea and said that it sounded "amazing". He told Hrithik that when he would be done with the writing, he would bring it to him.

However, "When I was writing, the only person whose face is popping into my head is Shah Rukh, from what I knew him." So when he told Hrithik about choosing SRK for the film, the Fighter actor said, "Farhan, you’ve to make your film, and in the best way possible. If you think he's the guy, please go ahead and call him. Don't worry about me.' That is a very gracious thing."

For the unversed, Hrithik had a cameo appearance in Don 2 as one of the disguises of Don.
