Jigra Box Office Day 10: Alia Bhatt starrer jailbreak drama has been mired in controversies ever since its release on October 11. Despite hitting the big screens on Dussehra, the movie has underperformed at the ticket window, failing to cross the ₹30 crore mark in its second weekend. Jigra witnessed slight gains over the weekend given no new releases have arrived in cinema halls. It will look to make the most of its run before Diwali on November 1 when two Bollywood biggies - Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again - arrive amid much anticipation.

Alia's Jigra struggling at the box office

In its second weekend, Jigra collected a little over ₹5 crore in India in Hindi. Given the film's poor performance at the box office down South, its Telugu version has been taken down from the theatres after one week. The biz in Telugu stands at a dismal ₹21 lakh in seven days. Distributors are likely to lose money with Jigra grossly underperforming despite the team managing to rope in Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Rana Daggubati for promotions.

In 10 days, Jigra box office collection stands at ₹27.32 crore in India and a little over ₹40 crore worldwide. It is lagging behind its competitor Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which has minted ₹33.25 crore in the same period.

Major embarrassment averted?

Alia's Jigra is on track to surpass Highway at the box office. The latter remains her lowest grosser to date with a little over ₹28 crore business back in 2014. Reportedly, Jigra has been made on a budget of ₹80 crore, with Alia alone taking home ₹10-12 crore for the film. Given its huge budget and underwhelming show at the box office, disaster status has been attached to Jigra.

Alia, meanwhile, has been busy with the shoot of Alpha, co-starring Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol. It is part of YRF's spyverse.
