Esha Deol Recalls Father Dharmendra Wanted Her To Get Married At 18: He Is Rightfully Orthodox

Esha Deol is the daughter of veteran actors Dharmendra and Hema Malini . In a new interview, the actress shared how her father was not on board with her having a career in movies. She called him ‘rightfully orthodox’ and shared that he wanted his daughters to marry early and ‘settle down’. For the unversed, Esha was married to Bharat Takhtani from 2012 to 2024.

Esha Deol, in a new interview, spoke about her father and how he belongs to a traditional mindset. The actress shared that the veteran actor objected to her having a career in films and there was a time when she had to lie to her parents while sneaking out late at night. Esha and Ahaana Deol are the two daughters of Dharmendra and Hema Malini . 

In an interview with Hautterfly, the actress recalled, “He (Dharmendra) didn’t want that I should enter the movies. He is a bit orthodox, rightfully so. He is a Punjabi father, and he wanted that we should get married, settle down at 18.” She added, “There was a phase where I would lie to go out on late nights." However, the Dhoom fame justified her father and asserted that he was raised in a way that he did not know any better and despite that, she had a different upbringing. 

About Esha Deol's marriage and divorce 

In February earlier this year, Esha Deol reportedly separated from her husband Bharat Takhtani after 11 years of marriage. As per information posted on the paparazzo account Varinder Chawla, the couple "mutually and amicably" decided to part ways after 11 years and shared their commitment to co-parenting their children. They have requested privacy from everyone. They shared a joint statement that reads, “We have mutually and amicably decided to part ways. Through this shift in our lives, the best interests and welfare of our two children are and will be of utmost importance to us. We’d appreciate our privacy being respected.”

Reportedly, Esha and Bharat were childhood sweethearts. They met at the former's school Jamnabai Narsee School during an inter-school competition. The actress once shared that she wrote her phone number on a piece of tissue and gave it to Bharat. After tying the knot in June 2012, They welcomed their first daughter Radhya in 2017, followed by another girl, Miraya, in 2019.
