Kalki 2898 AD was one of the most anticipated movies of the year. The film starring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Hasaan and Disha Patani is directed by Nag Ashwin and blends elements of science fiction with Indian mythology. The movie opened to a massively positive critical and commercial response. Despite being released on a working Thursday, the Nag Ashwin directorial has raked in staggering numbers at the domestic box office.
Kalki 2898 Ad hit the big screens on June 27. On the opening day, the film registered a staggering business of ₹92 crore in India, as per estimates provided by Sacnilk. The Prabhas starrer magnum opus was released in five languages: Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
The Hindi version of the sci-fi has minted ₹23.5 crore at the domestic box office. This is the highest opening day for Hindi movies released this year so far. Previously, Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan starrer Fighter held the record with ₹22.5 Cr on day 1. Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon’s Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya raked in ₹6.7 Cr on the first day. The much-talked supernatural thriller Shaitaan opened to a decent ₹14.75 Cr. Kalki 2898 AD has also beat the first-day collections of other 2024 Bollywood biggies like Maidaan, Crew, Laapata Ladies and Srikanth Bolla.
On its very first day of release, Kalki 2898 AD broke several box office records. The Prabhas-Amitabh Bachchan starrer has minted nearly ₹175 crore at the worldwide box office, as per Sacnilk. The film has surpassed Salaar's collection to become the fourth-highest Indian opener of all time.
RRR remains the highest grosser on Day 1 with ₹133 crore. This is followed by Baahubali 2 (₹121 crore) and KGF 2 (₹166 crore). With ₹92 crore on day 1 in India, Kalki 2898 AD has registered the fourth spot on the list. Consequently, Prabhas has become the only actor to feature in 5 out of the top 7 highest openers of all time. The coming weekend remains crucial to assess the overall box office collection of the film.
