Filmmaker Kiran Rao, whose last directorial Laapataa Ladies was India's official entry to Oscars 2025 in the Best International Film category, had revealed how Aamir Khan was keen on enacting the role essayed by Ravi Kishan and had even auditioned for it. An unseen audition clip of the Ghajini star in khaki uniform has now surfaced on social media.

In it, Aamir can be seen chewing betle leaf and enacting the lines given to him. “Aamir loved the character and auditioned for it as well," Kiran had revealed earlier about the casting of her film, adding that he backed out instead of imposing himself on the team despite being the producer. The role of Manohar, a corrupt cop, was eventually played by Ravi Kishan. He ended up winning praise for his role in Laapataa Ladies.

After Aamir's failed audition for Laapataa Ladies went viral, many pointed out how the actor was "selfless" as he let go of the role he liked on paper. About not choosing her former husband in the movie, Kiran had shared, "Aamir was bringing a star baggage to the character. So, we wanted someone so fit for the role that you cannot make out what he does next. Ravi Kishan is amazing, I felt that there could not be a better ‘Manohar’ than him.”

Aamir has also shared how he has taken to producing films because he is aware that he "can't act in all movies". "I thought that I could do one film a year as an actor, but as a producer, I can produce many more films. I want to bring out stories that touch my heart. I won’t be able to act in all films but I can produce them. I want to give a platform to new talents," Aamir said last year.
