From 'Radhe Shyam' to 'RRR' to 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' here is a list of upcoming Hindi movies that will take you on a journey to a different era.

With the theatres finally open for the audience in the country, filmmakers are set to release their movies featuring some of the audiences, favourite actors. There are several period drama movies lined up for release in the upcoming months that will bring a whole new era on screen for the audience. From Radhe Shyam to Gangubai Kathiawadi to RRR, here is a list of films to transport you to a different era.

1. RRR

RRR is an upcoming Telugu period action drama film directed by S. S. Rajamouli and stars N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan,  Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt in the lead roles. It is a fictional story about two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (Charan) and Komaram Bheem (Rama Rao), who fought against the British Raj and Nizam of Hyderabad respectively. The film is scheduled to be released theatrically on January 7, 2022.

2. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical crime drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali that stars Alia Bhatt in the lead role as Gangubai Kothewali, a young girl sold into prostitution by her suitor who later becomes the madam of a brothel in Kamathipura, in the 1960s. The film is scheduled for worldwide release in theatres on January 6, 2022.

3. Radhe Shyam

Radhe Shyam is an upcoming Indian period romantic drama film written and directed by Radha Krishna Kumar and stars Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in the lead roles. The movie is set in 1970s' Europe and has been shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi languages. The film is scheduled to release on January 14, 2022, coinciding with the festival of Sankranthi.[

4. 83

Indian cricket fans will be able to relive the joy of winning the Cricket World Cup in 1983 through the biographical sports film 83. The movie is based on the Indian Cricket team that won the Cricket World Cup in 1983. The movie stars Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil Dev, along with Deepika Padukone, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Harrdy Sandhu, Ammy Virk, Pankaj Tripathi, Boman Irani, Nishant Dahiya and Sahil Khattar. The movie is slated for a theatrical release on December 24, 2021.

5. Adipurush

Adipurush is an upcoming historical film based on the Hindu epic Ramayana. The movie stars Prabhas as Adipurush, Kriti Sanon as Goddess Sita, and Saif Ali Khan as Lankesh (Ravana). The movie is reportedly one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in Telugu and Hindi along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam on August 11, 2022.

6. Maidaan

Maidaan is a biographical sports film based on the golden era of Indian football (1952–1962). the movie stars Ajay Devgn as football coach Syed Abdul Rahim who was also known as Rahim Saab. He was an Indian football coach and manager of the Indian national team from 1950 until his death in 1963.
