Ranbir Kapoor's Rockstar Re-release Collections Witness Over 200% Growth: Box Office Report

Rockstar marked the first collaboration between Ranbir Kapoor and Imtiaz Ali, who later also worked together on Tamasha (2016), which was also a superhit.

13 years after its initial release, Ranbir Kapoor starrer Rockstar was screened in select theatres across in India. The movie has always been a favourite of Ranbir's fans and marked the first collaboration between the Animal star and Imtiaz Ali, who later also worked together on Tamasha (2016). The re-release trend has picked up pace in India and seeing the positive audience reactions, is likely to continue. Rockstar, meanwhile, has been doing good business after it was re-released three weeks back.

Rockstar scores big after re-release

Ranbir's Rockstar was a critical and commercial hit during its initial release. Due to lack of new films in the big screens owing to the election season, Rockstar was screened in select theatres in India. Its box office collections have been decent, with the business picking up gradually. After Animal success and Imtiaz's last directorial Amar Singh Chamkila earning good reviews, the interest in Rockstar re-release also witnessed an uptick, which is evident in its collections despite limited shows.

According to a report in Pinkvilla, Rockstar re-release sold more than 2 lakh tickets. While its business in the first two weeks was Rs 1.10 crore, the collections jumped to Rs 1.23 crore in its third week alone. This took the three week total to Rs 2.33 crore. This will add to the lifetime collections of the film, which were pegged to be a little below Rs 69 crore in its initial run back in 2011.

Meanwhile, Ranbir has been hard at work for his role as Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. He began shoot for the magnum opus in May with some pictures from the set going viral on social media. He is also set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love & War opposite wife Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
