After achieving success with Kedarnath and Simmba, Sara Ali Khan faced a setback with her third film, Love Aaj Kal, in 2020, where her acting was heavily criticised. In an interview with Mid-Day, she reflected on the film's failure, admitting her lack of honesty towards the project.
During her conversation with Mid-Day, Sara candidly described Love Aaj Kal as a mistake on her part.
She took full responsibility for her performance, stating, "I didn’t deliver. After the success of 'Kedarnath' and 'Simmba,' another box-office hit could have led me astray. I take full responsibility for the fact that I didn’t deliver. Nevertheless, it really helped me."
Sara acknowledged that the lack of appreciation for her work affected her, but she was grateful for the audience's acceptance through her subsequent projects like Atrangi Re (2021) and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023).
She recalled, "I called Aanand L. Rai and told him, 'Atrangi Re is a great script. This character is outstanding. Are you sure you don’t want to call Alia Bhatt for the role?'” Sara explained that her suggestion stemmed from nervousness. However, taking on the role helped her regain confidence and bounce back.
Most recently, Sara was seen in Ae Watan Mere Watan, portraying Usha Mehta, a significant figure in India's freedom struggle. Her next project is Anurag Basu's Metro...In Dino, where she stars alongside Aditya Roy Kapur. The film also features a stellar ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, and Konkona Sen Sharma. Metro...In Dino is set to release in November this year.
