Swara Bhasker is among the many Bollywood celebrities who have reacted to the recent slap incident involving Kangana Ranaut. For the unversed, the Queen actress was at the Chandigarh airport when a CSIF officer allegedly slapped her. The woman officer was suspended from her job after the actress brought the issue to light. Now, Swara Bhasker has reacted to the incident by condemning it, but recalling how Kangana herself has justified violence in past.
In an interview with Connect Cine, Swara Bhasker reacted to Kangana Ranaut’s slapgate. The actress, who has worked with Kangana in the movie Tanu Weds Manu, sympathised with her and condemned the act by the security personnel. She shared, “Anybody who is a reasonable person will say that whatever happened with Kangana was wrong. There is nobody who will justify the violence or an act of assault which Kangana suffered. So yes, what happened with her was wrong and shouldn’t have happened. It is not right to assault anyone.”
However, Swara also added, “What people were telling Kangana’s right-wing supporters was that they shouldn’t be speaking up about this because they are those who justify lynching.” In the same conversation, the actress noted that even though Kangana got slapped ‘she is alive’. She compared the situation with people who are lynched and breathe their last in assaults.
In the same conversation, Swara Bhasker recalled the time when Kangana Ranaut had justified violence in the past. The actress noted, “Kangana just got slapped–and even that should not have happened–but at least she is alive, and has her security around. In this country, people have lost their lives, they’ve been lynched to death, shot dead on a train by security personnel, in riots, security personnel have been recorded beating up people. Jo log ye saare acts ko justify kar rahe hai, woh phir aake Kangana ke case pe hume mat sikhao (The people who justify these acts should not teach us about Kangana’s case).”
She recalled the time when the Queen actress took to her social media account to justify violence in several instances. She added, “The problem with the Kangana case is that she herself has used her platform to justify violence. Her past tweets resurfaced, including the one for which she was banned from Twitter, where she has almost called for a genocide... Then she had also justified Will Smit slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, saying that if her mother or sister was abused, she would have also slapped someone.” She concluded by noting that the officer who wronged Kangana has been punished, but people ‘who have been killed in the last ten years in the country’ are still awaiting justice.
