Throwback: Karisma Kapoor Refused To Live With Bachchan Family, Broke Off Engagement With Abhishek?

Bollywood gossip circles are no strangers to rumours. Of late, reports are flying fast and thick that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan's relationship has hit a rough patch. The couple has avoided making public appearances together, which has stoked separation rumours even more. Going back in time, we recall when Abhishek broke off his engagement with Karisma Kapoor.

When Abhishek Bachchan and Karisma Kapoor got engaged

Karisma Kapoor had reportedly dated Abhishek Bachchan, the son of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, for a few years before getting engaged to him in 2002. However, the couple’s families called off their wedding, leaving fans shocked.

According to a report in Bollywood Shaadis, Karisma did not want to live with the Bachchan family at Jalsa and had told Abhishek that she would like to live with him separately after marriage. In fact, in an old video, Jaya Bachchan was even seen introducing Karisma to the media as her future daughter-in-law.

At an event, she said, "I would be here or our family the Bachchan family with the Nanda family welcome another family into our group and that's the Kapoor's, Randhir and Babita Kapoor and to be my daughter-in-law Karishma Kapoor- that Abhishek's gift to his parents on his father's 60th birthday." However, Abhishek and Karisma fell out eventually.

Abhishek Bachchan, who loves his parents, reportedly sacrificed his marriage with Karisma at that time. He wanted to live with his family members in Jalsa even after marriage. Reports suggest that it was Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who accepted Abhishekh’s condition of living in Jalsa after marriage and then they got married in April 2007. They welcomed their daughter Aaradhya in November 2011.
