Angry Young Men Director Reveals Why Yash Was The Only South Star Featured In Salim-Javed Series

KGF star Yash is best known for his role in the two-part action franchise that brought him huge success and pan-India fame. It became the highest-grossing movie in Kannada film industry and was dubbed in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam. This time the actor is in the limelight for being part of the docuseries Angry Young Men. Filmmaker Namrata Rao revealed why she chose him for the series.

Why was Yash was part of the docuseries?

In a recent interaction, filmmaker Namrata Rao said she found Yash’s character in KGF quite similar to Vijay (Amitabh Bachchan in Deewaar). He had the impact of Salim-Javed’s angry young man persona in him. She also mentioned that till today netizens are connected to Rocky’s character from KGF.

She further said it didn’t take much time convincing Yash, given how much he respects their (Salim-Javed) work and always enjoys watching their films. He readily came on board and was happy to do it.

For the unversed, Angry Young Men director Namrata Rao is known for her work as an editor in movies including Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!, Ishqiya, Band Baaja Baaraat and Kahaani.

What’s next for Yash?

Kannada superstar Yash is currently busy filming his upcoming project Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups. Toxic is been helmed by Geetu Mohandas and it will explore the dark world of the drug mafia in the 1950s. In the movie, Yash is expected to play the role of a drug lord. 

Rumours are rife that either Sai Pallavi or Tara Sutaria has been finalised for the leading role. The movie is being bankrolled by KVN Productions. Toxic is scheduled to release in theatres on April 10, 2025.
