Popular Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was detained from Mysuru in connection with the Renuka Swamy murder case. As per PTI, the police are probing to find out if the actor was directly involved in the murder or was part of the conspiracy. The deceased, identified as Renuka Swamy worked with a pharmacy company.

Who is Renuka Swamy? 

As per PTI, Renuka Swamy worked with a pharmacy company and hailed from the district headquarters in the town of Chitradurga. He is reported to be 33 years old. Media reports suggest that he was the son of a retired BESCOM employee Shivanagowda-Ratnaprabha.

Swamy was the only son of his parents and had got married last year on June 28. His wife is expecting their baby and is due to deliver in six months. As per media reports, he was also associated with the Bajrang Dal. He identified as a key member of Bajrang Dal Suraksha three years ago. He was also believed to be a big fan of Darshan, who is accused of murdering him along with his aides.

What is the Renuka Swamy murder case for which actor Darshan has been arrested? 

As per PTI, The 47-year-old actor Darshan Thoogudeepa was picked up in connection with the murder of a man, identified as Renuka Swamy, on June 9 in the Kamakshipalya area of Mysuru. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda shared, “We have detained the Kannada film actor and his aides and are questioning him. Since the investigation is on I cannot share more details.”

After the alleged killing, the body of Swamy was dumped into a stormwater drain in Kamakshipalya. “Based on the recovery of the dead body of an unidentified man and the injuries on his body, a murder case was registered. On the basis of CCTV footage and other technical evidence, the deceased was identified as Renuka Swamy,” Dayananda said. When asked whether Darshan has been arrested: he said: “He has been taken into custody and is being questioned. Other procedures will follow after the due process.” It is alleged that the deceased had made some derogatory comments against a film actress in a social media post.  Police have provided tight security at the house of Darshan, who has a huge fan following.
