Orry Vaishno Devi Drinking Case: Popular influencer Orhan Awatramani has been in the news after Jammu and Kashmir Police booked him and his 7 friends for breaking the law by consuming alcohol in Katra, a base camp of Vaishno Devi. Liquer and non-veg are banned in Katra as it is situated near a holy shrine. While the Bollywood celebs have maintained radio silence over the matter probably owing to their friendship with the influencer, TV actor Sharul Pandit has addressed the controversy. He shared a video on his social media handle asking a question about whether being a celebrity "gives you a hall pass".
Taking to his Instagram handle, Shardul shared a video and captioned it as "What do you think sorry or chalta hai it’s ORRY. So this video is in relation to ORRY and his friends being booked In a case. An FIR has been launched against them for consuming non-veg and alcohol in Vaishnodevi Devi (It's prohibited there). They were informed about it by the hotel staff."
In the video, he shared his opinion, saying people often say media trials are completely wrong to which he agrees. He added that many believe Orry is a celeb owing to which he got embroiled in a controversy and even the government is "overreacting". However, he asked does being a celebrity gives them a leeway to do anything.
"I'm asking this very respectfully, but the question might be harsh. If you like Orry, you may not like this video, please skip it. When the FIR was filed, Orry ran away from there. It's possible that after this video, Orry might never appear on my podcast. I'm not against you; I'm against this act. But does being a celebrity really give you a "hall pass" where everything is allowed? What did your mom used to say? Whether you believe in a religion or not, if someone else follows it, you should respect their sentiments," he said.
He concluded the video by saying, "People often say that in India, people overreact. But if these same actions were carried out in another country at a religious place there, would it be treated the same way? What do you think about this? I genuinely want to know."
Soon after he shared the video, netizens flooded the comment section with their opinions. A user wrote, "Well done for bringing it out... I'm in London and you can't mess up like this here." Another wrote, "I believe being famous and a celebrity does not give you a right to disrespect the sanctity of a place. First of all they could go to some other place if they wanted to all the fun stuff. That’s a place of worship and there is a decorum to be followed. The answer to your question is that these people will follow all the rules abroad as they know that they cannot get away with it. So in short it is disrespect to the place, country and the people who have faith in the place." The third user wrote. "There's some decorum ! Religion nahi follow karna mat karo but atleast be respectful. If you can't resist your urge , stay wherever you are .. No need to party in religious places." While others simply hailed his video and wrote, "Well said".
Orry is an internet sensation who is said to be best friends with almost all celebs, particularly the young ones, including Janhvi Kapoor, Shanaya Kapoor, Ibrahim Ali Khan, Ananya Panday, Nysa Devgn and Bhumi Pednekar. Since the case was filed against him, Orry has been unreachable.
