Chhichhore actor Navin Polishetty reveals why he stopped acting in Bollywood films

Actor Navin Polishetty recently spoke up about his ambitions for Telugu Cinema from the perspective of a broader audience. The actor was addressing the media at a promotional event for his upcoming release Ms. Shetty Mr. Polishetty. Naveen Polishetty co-stars with Anushka Shetty in the romantic comedy directed by Mahesh Babu Pachigolla.

I had a reverse journey to Telugu cinema: Naveen Polishetty

When asked about why Polishetty stopped working in Bollywood, the Jathi Rathnalu actor replied by stating that his journey in cinema has been rather unusual. He added, “ Generally, everyone works here and then heads for Bollywood. I had a reverse journey.” Polishetty clarified that he is interested in working in films of all languages and industries, recalling his days in theatre when he would perform in both Hindi and Telugu plays. He added, “These days, I am also trying to learn Tamil.”

And yet, Polishetty added that his focus for now shall remain on Telugu Cinema and elaborated upon his reasons for it. He said, “The times we are in now, the potential of good cinema to have a big reach is tremendous. Earlier, our business was mostly relegated to domestic turf. But now, if we make a good film here, it is bound to get a great response from audiences all over.”

Polishetty then opened up on his ambitions to expand Telugu cinema’s reach, and to make it more accessible and popular among audiences of all languages and industries. He added, “It’s a high of a different kind when we make an original film based on our scripts, and filmmakers from other industries talk about it. That’s exactly why I don’t do remakes, even though I have been offered plenty of them. I want to grab attention with our own original screenplays, by making original films - that’s my hope for Telugu cinema.”

Miss Shetty Mrs. Polishetty marks the return of Anushka Shetty to Telugu movies after 3 years. The Baahubali franchise was last seen in the 2020 film Nishabdham. Miss Shetty Mrs. Polishetty releases on September 7.
