Kristen Stewart Claims She Suffered Mental Health Issues After Twilight's Success: Loved To Be Sad

Kristen Stewart shot to overnight fame following her role of Bella Swan in film franchise Twilight. The sudden shift however, was not easy to process.

The Twilight film franchise has arguably been one of the most wildly successful series of book adaptations in contemporary cinema. Twilight has etched a near-permanent place for itself when it comes to pop culture - an impact which understandably completely shifted the reality of its faces - Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, both of whom shot to overnight fame. This however, was too sudden a shift for Stewart, who had to contend with a decline in her physical and mental health as a result of it.

When the spotlight on Twilight landed Kristen Stewart in the hospital


In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Stewart, now 33, reflected on how incredibly difficult she found it, to deal with her newfound fame. Not only did the arc lights and the overwhelming attention impact her physical health, but her mental health too plummeted hand in hand.

She said, "(At the hospital) they were like, ‘She’s dehydrated.’ I was like, ‘I’m not dehydrated. I’m...flipping out.’ They gave me an IV and a mild sedative, and I started calming down and my hands started opening up, because you...atrophy." She further elaborated how she also suffered with insomnia and vomiting when her anxiety flared up, adding: "I was always like, ‘Who knows? I could spontaneously combust in a puddle of puke right now." Not just this, the biggest issue at hand, was her growing tendency to just remain "sad". She shared, "I loved to be sad ... Oh, my God. I made a complete art project out of it, my whole life."

When did things start getting better for Kristen Stewart?


Stewart had trouble sleeping continued for years until she met her fiancee Dylan Meyer, who helped get her into a healthy routine after they moved in together. She said, "When she moved into this house, I had no curtains, three forks, and I never drank coffee, and I was like ‘I don’t sleep.’ She’s like ‘In the morning, you drink coffee and you work, and you’re alive, and you’re awake, and then at night you close the curtains.’ In retrospect, it was so obvious."

Elsewhere in the interview, she discussed the couple's relationship revealing they are planning to marry soon but they have decided against having a big ceremony because they are both so busy with work. Kristen also insisted they plan to start a family in the future, saying she "really wants that to happen" but although she has no fears about being pregnant, but just the thought of giving birth petrifies her.
