Oscars 2019: 'Black Panther' bags 7 nominations including Best Picture, see full list inside

When 'Black Panther' came out in 2018, it opened to rave reviews from critics and audiences alike. Usually, superhero films are not treated so seriously by an organisation like The Academy, but seeing how many accolades the film has been receiving over the year, it had to be taken into consideration. And now that the complete Oscars nomination list for 2019 is out, the Chadwick Boseman starrer has won big already.

The Ryan Coogler directorial was nominated in a whopping seven categories- Costume Design, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, Original Score, Production Design, Original Song and Best Picture. Of course out of the lot, the fact that it has made it in the Best Picture list with films like Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star Is Born and Roma speaks volumes about the film's success. What's even more incredible is the fact that it has become the first ever superhero film to make it in the Best Picture category. After the infamous dismissal of Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' by the Academy back in 2008, it has taken more than ten years for this dream to be realised. However, the maximum number of nominations went to Roma which had the advantage of representing in the Foreign Language Film category as well. 

An ecstatic Marvel Studios team also tweeted out their congratulations to the Black Panther team. In the meantime, Avenger: Infinity War was nominated in only one category which was Best Visual Effects.
