Pirates Of The Caribbean Actor Tamayo Perry Dies At 49 In A Shark Attack

Tamayo Perry, an Ocean Safety lifeguard and surfing instructor known for his roles in several films, including the Pirates of the Caribbean series, has died following a shark attack off Oahu, Hawaii. Sky News reported that the incident occurred near Goat Island on Sunday, when a man spotted Perry in distress and alerted emergency services. Perry was brought to shore by jet ski, but was pronounced dead on the beach.

City and County of Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguard Tamayo Perry, 49, died in the attack near Goat Island, as per a report by AP. Honolulu Ocean Safety and the city’s fire, police and emergency medical services departments responded to Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore just before 1 p.m. after a caller reported seeing a man who appeared to have suffered shark bites, AP reported.

Lifeguards brought Perry to shore by jet ski and paramedics assisted with the death pronouncement. Perry, who worked as a lifeguard on the North Shore, began his career with the Ocean Safety department in July 2016. According to AP, Ocean Safety personnel posted shark warnings in the area following the attack.

Tamayo Perry's legacy

Tamayo Perry, aged 49, had also appeared in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle and Blue Crush. In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, released in 2011, he shared the screen with actors such as Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush.

Kurt Lager, the acting chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety, described Perry as a beloved figure both on Oahu's North Shore and globally during a media interaction, noting his infectious personality and the deep affection people had for him. Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi expressed similar sentiments, calling Perry's death a tragic loss.
