Lisa, the youngest member of k-pop girl group BLACKPINK broke free from the shackles of YG Entertainment in 2023. She ventured into solo endeavour and since then she has never looked back. After performing at several shows, the New Woman hitmaker is all set to enthral the audience at Oscars. But, this announcement has raised several eyebrows and netizens took to Reddit to debate if she is exploited by the western market or is she really being supported by the industry,

One user on Reddit shared a post regarding the transition of K-pop happening. The statement read, “Lisa’s solo career seems to be focused on distancing herself from the traditional K-pop image and establishing a persona that feels more authentic to her. This is completely understandable—many artists seek creative freedom after years of working within a rigid system. However, the challenge lies in how that transition is received.” While another user wrote, “She lacks a well defined musical identity. She is shooting all sides trying to find something that sticks”. “Or maybe she’s not a good singer and her songs aren’t good enough to be carried by her fans. I also think yall forget the bar is to be successful in the kpop industry is a lot lower than in the west. I believe if her songs were great her fans in Asia would be crazy supportive”, wrote the third user.

Apart from being applauded for her stage performance, netizens have always pointed out her always not singing live, that includes, at VMA’s performance last year.

BLACKPINK Lisa’s road to global stardom

Lisa is all set to script history with her performance at Oscars 2025. The award ceremony will take place on March 2, at the Dolby Theatres in Hollywood, Los Angeles. While in India, it will stream live on streaming giant Disney Hotstar on March 3 from 5:30 am onwards.

Lisa ask is known as Lalisa Manobal made her deb ut under YG Entertainment in a group named BLACKPINK. She released her debut single Album Lalisa and second single Money, which topped the charts and became most viewed music video. She later made her acting debut in 2025 in the HBO television series The White Lotus. Her upcoming debut studio album tiled Alter Ego will be released on February 28, 2025. The album consists of fifteen tracks and features guest appearances from Rosalía, Doja Cat, Raye, Future, Tyla and Megan Thee Stallion.
