Mollywood director Alphonse Puthren has strongly defended his latest film Gold against the movie's failure that its lack of success in theatres was not because of its quality but a deliberate attempt to undermine its performance. Responding to a comment on his Facebook page about the film's lukewarm reception, Puthren dismissed the idea that Gold was a genuine flop.

How did Alphonse Puthren defend Gold?

Puthren argued that the movie had faced intentional sabotage created by certain industry units. Contrary to claims of failure, Puthren talked about Gold's significant pre-release anticipation collecting an impressive Rs 40 crore. He pointed out that it was the only Prithviraj film to achieve such substantial pre-release earnings.

However, Puthren alleged that the film's decline resulted from deliberate negative publicity and undisclosed revenue misrepresentations which left him feeling disillusioned and unsupported. He said as per ManoramaOnline, “The film is not a flop, it is a theatrical failure. It is because of bad publicity. They told me many lies and hid the money from me. No one helped me. Like Peera for Putin, an Alphonse son is a movie. This is the whole word uttered by that great man.”

Expressing disappointment with the industry's lack of assistance and transparency, Puthren disclosed his absence during the film's promotional phase due to health concerns, expecting others to take charge. He added, “Anwar said that he can even get Premat's money from the theatre. The Mahan who was crowded with people in the theatre and those who were with the Mahan will all belong. I will take it.”

He also claimed that his health had been adversely affected by certain parties not helping Gold have a smooth release.
