L2 Empuraan: The Malayalam action thriller starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran is the most awaited film of the year. The trailer of the L2 Empuraan was released on March 19 at midnight and added a wave of excitement among fans. Mohanlal reprises his role as Khureshi Ab’raam aka Stephen Nedumpally. L2 Empuraan release date

The actioner is set to release in cinemas on March 27, 2025. It will be the first movie to premiere on IMAX. Additionally, the film will be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. Malayalam actor Mohanlal announced the news on his official Instagram account.

Storyline and plot

The story follows the journey of Stephen Nedumpally (played by Mohanlal), who leads a double life as Khureshi Ab’raam, the enigmatic leader of a powerful global crime syndicate. The film explores the events that unfold after his exit from Kerala politics, as shown at the end of Lucifer. This sequel to Lucifer (2019) is the second instalment of a planned trilogy. Deepak Dev, who also composed the music for Lucifer, is responsible for the film's soundtrack. In March 2023, Dev confirmed that he had already started working on the music for Empuraan.

The film stars Mohanlal, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Eriq Ebouaney, Caroline Koziol, Saniya Iyappan, Jerome Flynn, Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, and Baiju Santhosh in major roles. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran, this action thriller is produced by Antony Perumbavoor and Subaskaran Allirajah under the banners of Lyca Productions and Aashirvad Cinemas.

As per reports, L2 Empuraan is made with a budget of ₹400 crores and has huge expectations among Malayalam audiences, as Part 1, Lucifer, was a blockbuster success and collected around ₹150 crores in its theatrical run.
