Emily In Paris: Fans have been waiting in anticipation for the fifth season of the Netflix show. Featuring Lily Collins in the lead role, the series narrates the story of a young girl Emily Cooper who relocates to Paris from Chicago for a job in marketing. The makers have teased that in the new season, the character might shift base to Rome to head the company's branch in the Italian city. This has sparked a political debate. In a recent interview, French President Emmanuel Macron has joked about keeping the show in France.

Emily in Paris in Rome doesn‘t make sense: French President Emmanuel Macron

Speaking to Variety, the French President Emmanuel Macron discussed the impact of the country's popular culture. He mentioned that he would not let Emily Cooper from the show move to Rome as it does not make sense for a show with Paris in the title to be about an Italian city. His comments have sparked a banter.

President told the publication, “We will fight hard. And we will ask them to remain in Paris! “Emily in Paris“ in Rome doesn‘t make sense.” The series has become even more special for Macron as his wife Brigitte appears in a cameo in the latest season. Talking about the same he said, “I was super proud, and she was very happy to do it. It’s just a few minutes, but I think it was a very good moment for her. I think it’s good for the image of France. Emily in Paris is super positive in terms of attractiveness for the country. For my own business, it’s a very good initiative.”

However, Roberto Gualtieri, the city mayor of Rome has reacted to Macron's comments and assured him that Emily will do just fine in Rome. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter),  “Dear Emmanuel Macron, don't worry: Emily is doing great in Rome. And one can't control the heart: let's let her choose.”

Emily In Paris now in Rome

As the name suggests, most of Emily in Paris, across its initial three - and now four - seasons, has been shot in and around Paris and other parts of France. This season, in particular, featured several parts shot in Rome. Late in April, the crew wrapped up their Paris schedule to move on to Rome, where the remaining sequences, were shot. Following this, the show's creator, Darren Star, confirmed Emily's move to Rome.

As per the storyline, Sylvie and Emily decided to open a branch of Savoir in Rome. In order to do this, Sylvie offers Emily the lead position which will require her to move to Italy. Stuck in personal and professional crossfire, Cooper decides to take the move.
