Shihan Hussaini Dies At 60 After Battling Blood Cancer, Donates Body For Medical Research

Shihan Hussaini's mortal remains would be kept at High Command until 7 PM for students to pay their last respects. The remains will be then taken to Madurai.

Shihan Hussaini, Tamil actor and renowned karate expert died in the early hours of Tuesday, March 25 in Chennai. The news was confirmed by his family through his official Facebook handle. The veteran actor was battling blood cancer for a long time. "I’m very sad to inform that HU has left us. HU will be at the High Command, his residence at Besant Nagar, until evening. - Hussaini and family, kamana/mahima," the statement by the family read.

Who was Shihan Hussaini?

He was an Indian karate expert and actor in the Tamil film industry, who rose to fame with his debut film Punnagai Mannan, where he played a dancer who treats Revathi's character. The success of the film landed him a role in Rajinikanth's starrer Velaikaran. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, he worked with Hollywood productions - Bloodstone, Unnai Solli Kutramillai and Vedan.

He last appeared in 2022 at a reality show Vellum Thiramai, as a judge.

Earlier this month, Shihan Hussaini informed his fans on Facebook that he donated his body for medical research. An excerpt from his post read, "Signed it. This will be used for teaching purposes for anatomy to medical students. Was very very happy to be of teaching even after my death. 'Preparing for death but not giving up'."

In a recent post shared on his Facebook handle, the family requested archers, parents and coaches to wear their uniforms of any colour while visiting his home to pay their last respects. They asked the archers to bring their arrows and bows to shoot a few rounds. "His mortal remains will be in high command till 7pm. All archers will shoot a few arrows at 5pm where HU will be administering the shooting through his mortal body. All karatekas, at 3pm assemble with your Gi and you will perform katas, where HU will administer through his mortal body," an excerpt of the post read.

Shihan Hussaini's mortal remains will be taken to Mdurai after 7 PM. He is survived by his wife and a daughter.
