Vettaiyan Hindi Box Office: Amitabh Bachchan Worked For Prabhas' Kalki, Not For Rajinikanth Film

Amitabh Bachchan has played pivotal roles in regional South Indian films like Kalki 2898 AD and Vettaiyan this year. The actor played the role of Asshwathama in the Prabhas headliner released earlier this year and is seen as a Justice of the Human Rights Commission in Vettaiyan which is headlined by Rajinikanth. While Kalki 2898 AD raked in tremendous business in the Hindi version, Vettaiyan has not been able to impress the Hindi-speaking audience as much.

Amitabh Bachchan does little for Vettaiyan Hindi box office

The Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan marks the Tamil debut of the Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan . The film opened to a smashing Rs 31.7 crore in India, as per Sacnilk. However, the film raked in only Rs 0.6 crore. 

After a four-day theatrical run, the movie has raked in a staggering Rs 104.75 crore, in India. However, the Hindi collection of the movie remains dismal. In Hindi, the film has raked in only Rs 2.3 crore. Despite veteran actors like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth coming together, the movie has fewer takers in Hindi. However, another reason for this could be new Bollywood releases such as Alia Bhatt 's Jigra and Triptii Dimri-Rajkummar Rao's Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video.

Amitabh Bachchan 's role in Kalki 2898 AD

The veteran Bollywood actor featured in the Nag Ashwin directorial Kalki 2898 AD, which combined elements of Mahabharata with science fiction. The movie was a blockbuster and also featured Prabhas and Deepika Padukone . Following the release of the film, Amitabh Bachchan 's performance received massive critical acclaim from cinemagoers and critics alike.
 

The Rs 646.31 crore grosser, raked in more business from Hindi than original Telugu version. Amitabh Bachchan 's performance as Ashwathamma was credited for the same. Kalki 2898 AD minted Rs 286.78 Cr in Telugu while making Rs 293.12 Cr in Hindi, as per Sacnilk. For a regional film to do better business in Hindi is a rare feat that the Prabhas starrer had achieved. However, the presence of Amitabh Bachchan could not tip the scales for Vettaiyan.
