Ellen DeGeneres to return to television with special documentary Saving the Gorillas

Ellen DeGeneres, who has been away from television after her popular talk show went off air over a year ago, is all set to return with a new show. The popular host is returning to the television world for a documentary special on Discovery Channel. The show has been titled Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure, as per Variety.

When will the show stream? 

Ellen will be hosting Saving the Gorillas: Ellen’s Next Adventure, which will go on air on September 23 at 8 p.m. on Discovery Channel. Also, on World Gorilla Day (September 24), the show will go on air on Animal Planet at 10 p.m. The documentary will also stream on Discovery+ and Max.

Speaking about the show, Ellen said, "Every single thing has led me to just have a big enough platform to say, ‘Look at work Dian Fossey did. There’s nothing that keeps you more present, more in the moment, than sitting with gorillas.”

The documentary will showcase Ellen's passion for animals and her respect for the primatologist Dian Fossey as she works to build The Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund in Rwanda. Helmed by Abigail Harper, the documentary marks a new genre for Ellen as she is primarily associated with comedy.

Ellen's self-titled talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, came to an end in May 2022. In 2020, toward the end of its 22-season run, the show was embroiled in controversy with allegations of mistreatment and misconduct behind the scenes.
