Kalki 2898 AD: Prabhas , Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Kalki 2898 AD has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian movie of 2024 worldwide so far. The Nag Ashwin directorial blends mythology with sci-fi elements and was praised for the unique story that it presented to the pan-India audience through cutting-edge technology. The film was also submitted for consideration as India's entry for the 97th Academy Awards, but lost out to Kiran Rao's Laapataa Ladies.

A post circulating on X seems to hint that Kalki 2898 AD has been picked for Oscars 2025 in the best VFX category. But what is the truth behind it? Find out.  

Is Prabhas ' Kalki 2898 AD going to the Oscars?

A post circulating online depicted a card with Kalki 2898 AD and Best VFX 2024 written over it. What caught people's attention was that it looked exactly like the card that announces official nominees and winners of the Academy Awards. This led to confusion over whether Nag Ashwin's film is headed to the Academy Awards. However, that is not the case.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's list of potential nominees in the Oscars Best Visual Effects category, Kalki 2898 AD is not even in the running among the 26 titles that could make the cut. 20 movies will be shortlisted and 5 will make it to the final nominations. Moreover, even if Kalki 2898 AD is submitted for Best Visual Effects, the shortlist will be announced on December 17.
