Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2898 AD is all set to hit the big screens in June 27. After multiple delays and a three-year-long shooting time, the Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer is all set to kick-start its promotions phase with the trailer launch in the first week of June.

The big-budget movie is said to be a unique sci-fi actioner with mythological connection. The characters names and details surrounding them have also added to the excitement over how Nag Ashwin will tie up mythology in his futuristic world. In a recent statement, the director spoke about the mytho elements in his movies.

Nag Ashwin on religious connotations in Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD characters, played by Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan, have direct religious references. Earlier reports had suggested that the Saaho star's role Bhairava is an avatar of Lord Vishnu in the film universe. Whereas Big B's character is Ashwatthama, a character in Mahabharata.

Speaking about the film's mytho elements, Nag Ashwin said that he is not concerned that his film does not involve any characters actively worshipped by Hindus, according to 123 Telugu.

He further added, “We can take it as extremely religious, or we can see it as the story of someone who was born with powers but didn’t know what to do with them. He finds his mentor in the process. If you tell it in the Indian context, there will be a bit of emotion and devotion.”

Kalki 2898 AD universe expands

Menawhile, Kalki 2898 AD universe has expanded with an animated series titled Bujji and Bhairava. The show will stream on Prime Video from May 31. India's "first mytho-sci-fi animated series" is directed by Nag Ashwin.

Kalki 2898 AD is a two-part series, with first installment hitting the big screens in late June this year.
