Kamal Haasan is basking in the success of his recent outing Kalki 2898 AD. The two-part magnum opus is directed by Nag Ashwin and stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Disha Patani and Deepika Padukone in pivotal roles. Since the day of release, the sci-fi movie has been earning praise from critics and audiences alike. Amid the overwhelming box office response, users pointed out that Kamal Haasan, who plays the antagonist in the film, appeared for a limited time only. The actor has now shared his opinion on the same.

Kamal Haasan says his part in the Kalki story has only begun

Kamal Haasan plays the role of Yaskin, the ruler of Complex in Kalki 2898 AD which blends elements of science fiction with the Indian mythological epic- Mahabharata. Set 6000 years after the Kurukshetra war, the first part of the two-part franchise only featured a glimpse of the Tamil superstar. Weighing in on this in a press meet in Chennai, Kamal asserted that his character comes to light only in the sequel of the movie.

Kamal Haasan shared, “In Kalki, I have played a small role that makes an appearance for a few minutes only. My real part in the film has only begun and I will have more to do in the second part. So, I watched this film as a fan and I was astonished.” He went on to appreciate the filmmaker Nag Ashwin and shared, “We have been seeing many signifiers that Indian cinema is moving towards global entertainment, and Kalki 2898 AD is one among them. Nag Ashwin carefully handled the subject of mythology without any religious bias. Across the world, only Japan, China, and Greek civilizations can come close to the Indian heritage of storytelling. Ashwin has chosen stories from that and has executed it with a lot of patience by bringing everyone together.”

Kamal Haasan on why he decided to feature in Kalki 2898 AD despite not wanting to do mythological movies

While interacting with reporters in Chennai, Haasan said the Kalki 2898 AD makers have combined science fiction and mythology cleverly, without causing any embarrassment and without leaning too heavily on religion. "I prefer not to act in mythology films, as I would rather be among the humans. But I found Kalki’s storyline very interesting," said the actor, adding that his role in the film is just a drop in the huge Kalki universe.

Haasan also said the film will appeal to everyone’s inner child. "I think the film has been made keeping the children in mind. Even the songs were picturised differently and I am happy that I have also been a part of the film," said the actor.
