On the occasion of legendary actor and politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s 101st birth anniversary, megastar Chiranjeevi asked the central government to honour the veteran actor with Bharat Ratna. He said on social media that the Bharat Ratna would be a "fitting tribute" to the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Taking to his X handle, Chiranjeevi shared an old picture of NTR with a note. The actor stated, “The fame of some is immortal. He is an eternal example for future generations. Remembering Nandamuri Tarak Rama Rao today. I think the Bharat Ratna award is a fitting tribute to his services in public life. I hope that the central government will heed this long-standing wish of the Telugu people (sic).”
Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also gave tribute to the late actor and wrote, “Remembering the legendary NTR on his birth anniversary. He was a remarkable icon of Telugu cinema and a visionary leader. His contributions to film and politics continue to inspire generations. From his unforgettable roles on screen to his transformative leadership, he is fondly remembered. We will keep working to fulfil his vision for our society.”
Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, affectionately known as NTR, was a multifaceted Indian actor, producer, director, editor, and politician who served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh for seven years. He was awarded three National Film Awards for co-producing Thodu Dongalu (1954) and Seetharama Kalyanam (1960), and for directing Varakatnam (1970). NTR also received the Rashtrapati Awards for his performances in films like Raju Peda (1954) and Lava Kusa (1963).
