A 40-year-old woman was killed on Friday after being hit by a dumper in West Bengal's East Burdwan district, police said.

The incident happened on the national highway in Goda area, they said. Rupa Sarkar, a resident of Tentulia in Dewandighi police station area, was returning home after visiting a doctor with her daughter when the dumper hit her, police said.

She died on the spot, an official said. The accident led to a massive snarl on the national highway. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, police said, adding that further investigations are underway.
