Bihar floods: Residents protest outside Dy CM Sushil Modi's residence

Days after parts of Bihar was submerged due to unprecedented rain, residents of the state's capital Patna has protested outside Deputy Chief Minister's residence. On Sunday, residents from flood-affected areas of Bihar's capital Patna protested outside Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Modi's residence. The residents raised slogans against Bihar's government and the Deputy CM. The residents in Patna are angry due to the repeated unacceptance of the authorities over the poor sanitation and drainage system.

During the floods that submerged the capital city of Bihar, deputy chief minister and BJP leader Sushil Modi was also rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team. A video circulated online showed deputy chief minister Sushil Modi and others being rescued in a boat by rescue teams, after his residence in the capital city of Patna was flooded. Almost all the posh area of the state was underwater due to unprecedented rains for three days. While some blamed the poor drainage system in the capital, others said that it was a natural calamity.

Around 70 killed in floods in Bihar's Patna 

As rains submerged whole of the Patna city including areas like Kankarbagh, Rajendra Nagar, Gardani Bagh, Dak Bungalow and SK Puri, 22 NDRF teams worked round the clock and undertook rescue operations. The teams rescued more than 10,000 people from flood-affected regions. Indian Air Force helicopters were also deployed to drop relief material in flood-affected areas. The stagnant water also required combatting to mitigate the risk of a disease outbreak. Meanwhile, India has recorded its highest rainfall this Monsoon since 1994.

In the aftermath of the flash floods in the state, 900 people have been tested positive for dengue, including 640 cases in Patna. The Bihar government on October 3, began the fogging process in the waterlogged areas to prevent the risk of vector-borne diseases in the flood-affected regions. While speaking to news agency ANI, Sanjay Kumar, the Principal Secretary of Health in the State informed that twenty-four teams are spraying Temefos in Patna to kill mosquitoes.
