After BSP drew naught in the Haryana Assembly 2019 polls, supremo Mayawati termed Congress' "selfishness" as the reason behind her party's abysmal defeat. Former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said that the Congress party publicised 'the fear of votes division.' Further stating that there has been a rise in BSP's vote share in 2019 in comparison to the Haryana assembly 2014 elections.

Mayawati said, "The people of Haryana were also very sad and distressed by the misrule of the BJP government and wanted to get rid of them. But the Congress party greatly publicised the fear of votes division among the public, for their selfishness. Due to this, the dedicated voters of BSP did not deter, but other voters definitely get confused.

"The BSP could not win seats in the Haryana Assembly general election this time, although the BSP has received more votes than the previous time," she added. The BSP had contested 41 candidates in Haryana, however, failed to draw even a single seat. In 2014, BSP had won one seat in the state.

Haryana Assembly elections

In a neck to neck battle between the two national parties, BJP won 40 out of the 90 assembly seats in the state, Congress won 31 and Others won 19 seats. While there has been a jump of 16 seats for the Congress party from the 2014 results wherein they won only 15 seats in Haryana assembly polls, the saffron party saw a downfall of 7 seats in their seat share of 2019.

Despite a downfall of 40 seats from 47 assembly seats in 2014 Haryana elections, PM Modi in an address to party cadre on Thursday at the national capital confirmed that there has been a rise in the BJP vote share by 3% in comparison to 2014. PM Modi while addressing the cadre not only mentioned the vote share figures but also explained how BJP has evolved in the state. He spoke about BJP’s journey as a junior ally to acquiring a 36% vote share.

The Congress party, JJP, AAP, BSP and others had targetted the Manohar Lal Khattar government over the economy, unemployment, farmer distress and the 'deterioration' of law and order situation in Haryana. Sources have reported that BJP CM Manohar Lal Khattar will meet with Haryana Governor to seek permission to form the government in the state with JJP support.
