Haryana Police Association extends support to Congress party

The Haryana Police Association on Saturday announced its support for the Congress and said that every police personnel in the state will vote for the Congress

The Haryana Police Association on Saturday announced its support for the Congress and said every police personnel will vote for the Congress. A delegation, led by the Haryana Police Association President Satpal Sharma, reportedly met Congress leader and former Chief Minister of the state, Bhupinder Singh Hooda at his residence on Saturday.  

'Police association will vote for the Congress in the coming elections'

"Hooda assured us that if his party is voted to power, it will make our pay at par with the Punjab Police. We, in turn, have assured him that the police association will vote for the Congress in the coming elections," said Association President Satpal Sharma in an official statement.

Satpal Sharma takes a dig at Haryana government 

Satpal Sharma further stated the state police are feeling let down and slammed the Manohar Lal Khattar for not meeting their demands. He said the government did not work towards fulfiling their demand for a salary increment.

"The state police personnel are feeling let down. Our major demand is to set out the salary on par with the Punjab Police personnel. Hooda tried for it in November 2014, but the incumbent government did nothing in this regard, We will never compromise with the work because for us the work is worship. We will work excellently because that is our job," he said. 

In an earlier statement, the Association President had stated that nobody cares for the police personnel and their families. He had also said, despite writing to the government several times their demands have not been met. The BJP released its manifesto for Haryana on October 13, in which the party mentioned a provision to provide salary increment to remove the salary discrepancies of all the employees of the state, the party also promised to make a provision to increase the amount of all pensions according to annual inflation. 

The Legislative Assembly elections in Haryana will be held on October 21, 2019, to elect 90 members of the Haryana Legislative Assembly. The results of the polls will be announced on October 24, 2019.
