Haryana: Multi-cornered electoral contest, here's all you need to know

Haryana is all set to fight a multi-cornered electoral contest with the BJP, Indian National Congress, Jannayak Janta Party, and 1,83,90,525 registered voters

Haryana is all set to fight a multi-cornered electoral contest with the BJP, Indian National Congress, Jannayak Janta Party, and 1,83,90,525 registered voters. These voters will elect the fate of 1,169 candidates and cast their votes. There are 5,741 polling stations in urban areas and 13,837 in rural areas according to the Election Commission and a total of 29,400 ballot units, 24,899 control units, and 27,611 VVPAT machines will be used for the 90-member Haryana assembly. 

For the Haryana Assembly elections, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has reportedly set a target of 75 out of 90 assembly seats. Last time, the BJP won 48 seats enjoying a comfortable majority, while the Congress won 17 seats. According to agency reports, 90 candidates from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), 87 from the BSP, four from the CPI, seven from the CPI-M, 90 from the Congress, one from the NCP, 81 from the Indian National Lok Dal, 375 Independent and 434 other candidates are contesting for the 2019 elections.

BJP campaigns big

Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar is contesting from Karnal while opposition leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda is contesting from his home constituency of Garhi Sampla-Kiloi in Rohtak District. For its campaign, the BJP held rallies all over the state with some of its biggest names including Prime Minister Narendra Modi who held four rallies in the State. The BJP has also granted tickets to three high profile sportspersons from the state including  Olympic medalist Dutt, Commonwealth gold medallist Babita Phogat. The party has also given ticket to a famous 'Tik Tok' star Sonali Phogat.

Haryana Assembly elections

The polling for 90 seats will start at 7 am and continue till 6 pm. The counting will be done on October 24. The State has also tightened security with more than 40,000 police personnel and over 13,000 paramilitary personnel and more than 20,000 Home Guards and Special Police Officers deployed.
