A poster has surfaced from Madhya Pradesh's Indore that attacks the BJP for their decision to award Veer Savarkar with the Bharat Ratna. The BJP declared to propose Veer Savarkar's name for Bharat Ratna in their Maharashtra election manifesto. Sources say that the posters have been posted by the Congress party to attack the BJP ahead of Assembly elections in Maharashtra and Haryana.

The poster asks 'Mother India' to forgive the people who have pledged to give Bharat Ratna to Veer Savarkar. The poster goes on to say that he had betrayed Mother India during the freedom struggle. Another poster has been put up which is the apparent letter written by Veer Savarkar to the British. In the second poster, the apology written to Savarkar's British rule is shown. According to ANI, the posters have been put up by Congress leaders Vivek Khandelwal and Girish Joshi.

BJP election Manifesto

The election manifesto of BJP for the Maharashtra Assembly polls has revealed that the party will ask the NDA Government at the Centre to confer India's highest civilian award on Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Home Minister Amit Shah in an election rally said that the First War of Independence in 1857 would have been regarded as a revolt if it wasn't for Veer Savarkar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also had called Savarkar a national leader in an election rally in Maharashtra. Among other prominent names that are proposed for the Bharat Ratna by the BJP government in Maharashtra are social reformers Jyotiba Phule and Savitribai Phule.

“It was Savarkar who gave the name First War of Independence to 1857, otherwise, our children would have known it as a revolt,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah said.
