Maharashtra: NOTA comes in second in Latur rural, beats Shiv Sena

While Riteish Deshmukh's brother has won in Latur Rural, NOTA has come in a distant second, defeating the Shiv Sena which has managed only half as many votes

In an interesting sub-result from Thursday's vote-counting, the none of the above (NOTA) option has turned out to be the second-most popular choice among voters, even ahead of Shiv Sena, in Maharashtra’s Latur-Rural constituency.

Congress leads, NOTA follows second

Dheeraj Vilasrao Deshmukh, the youngest son of former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh, has bagged over 1,35,000 votes at the time of writing with a 67.64 percentage of vote share. The NOTA option surpassed other prominent parties such as the Shiv Sena and the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi, and has polled 27,500 votes with a 13.78 percentage vote-share and is standing second in the poll charts of Latur Rural, so far.

NOTA ahead of Shiv Sena in Latur-Rural constituency

Shiv Sena candidate Sachin, alias Ravi Ramraje Deshmukh, has bagged 13,524 votes with a 6.78 percentage of vote share and stands third while Done Manchakrao Baliram of Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi party stands fourth with 12,966 so far with a vote share of 6.5 percent. It is interesting to note the vote count of NOTA is almost double than that of Shiv Sena.

Congress ahead of BJP in Latur-City constituency

Congress’ Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh, eldest brother of Dheeraj Deshmukh and actor Riteish Deshmukh has contested from Latur-City constituency and is leading the poll charts by bagging 109,548 votes at the time of writing with a vote share of 52.59 percent. Shailesh Govindkumar Lahoti of BJP is second with 69,227 votes and a 33.23 percent vote share, falling behind Amit Deshmukh by a huge margin.

BJP the single-largest in Maharashtra polls

At the time of writing,  BJP-Shiv Sena alliance tops the overall poll charts in Maharashtra by winning 141 seats and leading in 20 seats, forming a total tally of 161 seats. Opposition Congress-NCP has won 82 seats and is leading on 16 seats taking their total to 98 seats as of now.
