With just week to go for of the all-important Lok Sabha elections, when India will once again re-affirm its role as a beacon of democracy with an estimated 900 million voters expected to exercise their democratic franchise, an explosive sting by Republic Bharat has captured in a microcosm just how the citizens of India are betrayed time and time again by the very people in whom they repose their faith and vote into office. Following the sting being aired, Indian social media users have joined together in a chorus to demand stringent action on the errant MPs and to call for an end to the kind of practices they showed themselves to indulge in.

In a series of on-camera investigations, the Republic Bharat special investigation team had stung three sitting Members of Parliament (MPs), revealing a shameful and condemnable sidelining of the aspirations of Indian citizens and attempts by the elected representatives to further their own ends. Republic TV conducted stings on Congress MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary, Ram Kumar Sharma, RSLP MP from Sitamarhi in Bihar and BJP MP Harinarayan Rajbhar.

These three people who are supposed to represent and work for the citizens were caught on tape making statements that go against their oaths. From being open to recieving 'investment' ahead of elections to accepting money in exchange for asking a question in Parliament, the three sitting MPs gave viewers a clear sense of the give-and-take rot.

Netizens have demanded that action needs to be taken against this kind of rot. While one user stated that there needs to be a 'deadly strict check by the system' on the entry of such politicians, the other said that the Election Commission should interfere in the matter and definite action must be taken. Here are some of the responses:

One person says that there should be more such stings:

Some netizens have sought the Election Commission's intervention:

Many have demanded immediate action:

RLSP (Rashtriya Lok Samta Party) MP from Bihar's Sitamarhi constituency Ram Kumar Sharma was exposed on tape, where confessed that he put his constituency for sale for some money - betraying not only the voters of the Constitution but also the exercise of the largest democracy in the world.
