#GoebbelsGhafoora tops India's trending charts on Twitter, Maj Gaurav Arya thanks netizens for calling out Pak's fake news campaign

As Republic TV launched an all-out campaign against fake news spread by various Pakistan stooges on Twitter, Republic Media Network's Consulting Editor Major Gaurav Arya (Retd) on Tuesday started #GoebbelsGhafoora against Pakistan's anti-India social media campaign, which quickly rocketed up to Twitter Top 5 trends in India.

While talking to Republic World, Arya said that this was the power of honest journalism.

"This is the power of honest journalism. When you believe in your news and you put your neck out, then the people go along with you. The biggest strength of Republic Media Network is credibility," he said.

#GoebbelsGhafoora was picked up by many Twitterati after Arya tweeted out a picture of Pakistan's Major Gen. Asif Ghafoor, calling him out for spreading fake news on Twitter, specially fearmongering over Kashmir.

Who is Joseph Goebbels?

Arya had likened Ghafoor to Nazi Germany's  Reich Minister of Propaganda Joseph Goebbels during Adolf Hitler's reign from 1933 to 1945. Touted as Hitler's closest aides, Goebbels was known for his skills in public speaking and his deeply virulent antisemitism. He also advocated for harsher discrimination including the extermination of the Jews in the Holocaust.

Pakistan's fake news campaign

Pakistan has spread many tweets since the abrogation of article 370 claiming baseless news about unrest in the Valley and fake propaganda of Indian Army action against widespread protests in  Kashmir.

Pakistan politician Fawad Hussain Chaudhary had issued a tweet appealing to Indian Army soldiers along communal lines, even as his government was tweeting fake news and videos to make it appear as though the situation is Kashmir is anything but normal.

Pakistan politician Abdul Rehman Malik claimed that the Indian Army had used helicopter gunships to go to war with the citizens of J&K while Twitter user - 'WSK' (@WajSKhan) spread baseless rumours about the ground situation in Kashmir.
