Following Congress, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party has announced its list of first six candidates for the upcoming General elections on Friday.

The list includes the names SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, the cousins of Akhilesh Yadav's cousins Dharmendra Yadav and Akshay Yadav. However,  the name of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav is missing from the list.

According to the list, the SP patriarch Mulayam Singh will be contesting from Mainpuri, while his nephew Dharmendra Yadav will contest from Badaun and Akshay Yadav, the son of senior SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav from Firozabad.

In 2014 Lok Sabha, Mulayam Singh Yadav contested from the two constituencies of Mainpuri and Ghazipur, winning both, however, he later resigned from the Mainpuri seat.

The first list of six candidates of the Samajwadi Party also includes Kamlesh Katheria from Etahwah, Shabbir Valmiki from Behraich and Bhai Lala from Robertsganj.

The list comes amid the continual friction between the SP father-son duo as Mulayam Singh yet again ticked off and held his son responsible publicly accusing him of 'finishing the party'

The party's decision to release its first list comes after the Congress released its first list for Lok Sabha polls on Thursday that included contenders for 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi from their respective constituencies of Rae Bareli and Amethi.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav has reiterated that the Opposition unity is intact and that the Congress continued to be a part of their (SP-BSP) alliance with an allotment of two seats in their constituencies.

However, this statement seemed contrary to Congress' designs in Uttar Pradesh after the party released its first list of Lok Sabha candidates that include 11 contenders from Uttar Pradesh alone.

Other than two leaders, 9 more candidates have been announced by Congress for Uttar Pradesh Lok Sabha polls which includes Salman Khurshid who has been selected from the Farrukhabad constituency. Twice earlier,  he had been selected for the same Farrukhabad constituency, most recently in 2009.

Amethi and Rae Bareli, the only seats Congress had won in Uttar Pradesh in the 2014 general elections, have been the historic bastion for the Gandhi family. Rahul Gandhi has been contesting in that seat since 2004, and has been coming out victorious on each occasion.

The list, however, does not the name of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who recently announced her entry into active politics after being inducted into Congress as the General Secretary for UP East.
