Ayodhya: Abhishek Singhvi quotes popular Gandhi hymn on SC ruling

National Spokesperson of the Indian National Congress, Abhishek Singhvi on Saturday, took to the microblogging website Twitter to reflect upon the monumental Supreme Court verdict on the prolonged Ayodhya land dispute. Singhvi, in a tweet, said that unanimous decision of a decades-old dispute was 'historic'. He also quoted a line from a hymn popularised by Mahatama Gandhi to sum up his reaction at the verdict. The Constitutional bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi on Saturday ruled that the disputed land will be given to Hindus to build a temple, whereas Muslims will be given a 5-acres alternate land in a 'suitable, prominent place in Ayodhya' to build a mosque.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also tweeted in response to the landmark judgement by the Supreme Court. Home Minister Shah said, 'I have faith that the Apex court's historic verdict will by itself amount to a foundation stone. This verdict will further India's unity and great culture.'

Supreme Court Verdict

Delivering the landmark judgment in the Ayodhya dispute case, the Supreme Court on Saturday, delivered a unanimous judgment in the title suit of the disputed area awarding it to the Hindu parties for the construction of a temple. It also directed the Centre to come up with a scheme within three months to set up a trust which will hand over the outer courtyard and inner courtyard of the site for construction of a temple. Apart from this, the SC stated that an alternate land of 5 acres is to be allotted to Muslims for construction of a mosque either by the central govt or the State govt in a suitable place in Ayodhya. CJI Ranjan Gogoi, while delivering the unanimous judgement, dismissed the claims of the Sunni Central Waqf stating that the party altered its stance after being confronted with the Archeological Survey of India (ASI)'s findings. It also dismissed the claims of Nirmohi Akhara as it had no 'shebait' (deity worshipping) rights.
