Celebrations will kickstart at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium, Vijayawada on Friday on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh (AP) Formation Day. A statement from the Chief Minister’s Office stated that not only would the traditions and culture of the state be on display, but also the family members of the freedom fighters and important personalities would be felicitated. Several dignitaries including CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, Governor Biswabhusan Harichandran would be in attendance. The celebrations would continue for three days.
Some of the people who would be felicitated on the occasion are Pingali Venkaiah's granddaughter and grandson, Potti Sriramulu's grandchildren, Tanguturi Prakasam's relatives, Alluri Seetaramaraju's grandson, Kanneganti Hanumanthu's great-grandson, Koti Reddy's granddaughter, Vavilala Gopala Krishnaiah's relatives, Uyyalavada Narsimha Reddy's fifth-generation grandson and Damodaram Sanjeevaiah's grandchildren. The Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium has been decorated to showcase the handicraft and handlooms of AP. Also, cultural events are likely to take place, which would entail different types of entertainment such as music, dance, and drama. Besides this, people would be able to taste a variety of cuisine from multiple parts of the state.
While 21 stalls have been reserved for the handlooms and handicrafts, 25 other stalls would feature food items of AP. Apart from this, the event will also showcase Kondapalli and Etikoppaka toys, leather items from Vijayawada, lace items from Narasapuram, jewellery from Machilipatnam, Vijayawada, and Ongole, wood carving items from Tirupati in Chittoor district and Gannavaram jute items. AP Formation Day marks the formation of AP on November 1, 1956, after the reorganisation of states on linguistic lines. This was achieved after enormous sacrifices by people such as Potti Sriramulu, who lost his life after sitting on a fast. However, Telangana has ducked the trend by celebrating June 2 as its Formation Day after it was carved out as a separate state in 2014.
