BJP fields TikTok sensation Sonali Phogat for upcoming elections

Sonali Singh Phogat, a TikTok sensation from the state of Haryana has recently been fielded by the BJP from Adampur constituency against Kuldeep Bishnoi of Congress. The BJP has targetted winning 75 out of 90 assembly seats in poll-bound Haryana. The party is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it accomplishes its targets. Phogat has a fan following of over 2,000 on Instagram, and a stupendous following of over 1,30,000 on the TikTok platform. In a first-ever instance, a candidate is being given a ticket who rose to fame using the video-sharing platform.

Phogat's credentials 

Sonali Singh Phogat apart from being a TikTok sensation, and a TV personality, is the National Vice President of BJP's Mahila Morcha. She is also in charge of the Scheduled Tribe wing of Haryana, New Delhi. Furthermore, she is also a member of the BJP's National Executive Committee. Phogat has earlier worked in tribal areas of Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh as well.

Haryana Assembly Elections 

The Election Commission of India recently announced the state Assembly elections in Haryana. Haryana has 1.82 crore registered voters, out of which 1.7 lakh are service voters. The total strength of the Haryana Assembly is 90, out of which 17 seats have been reserved for SC category. The voting is touted to take place on October 21 with the results being declared on October 24 after the counting of the votes. According to the Commission, the last day for filing of nomination is October 4. The last day for the withdrawal of candidature is October 7.
