The Centre has announced national mourning on March 18, following the demise of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. A state funeral will be accorded to the late former Defence Minister.

The Centre has announced national mourning on March 18, following the demise of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. A state funeral will be accorded to the late former Defence Minister.

The National Flag will fly at half-mast in the National Capital and capitals of States and Union Territories.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday after battling a prolonged illness. He was 63 years old.

President of India Ram Nath Kovind announced on Twitter about Parrikar's demise. He tweeted saying:

"Extremely sorry to hear of the passing of Shri Manohar Parrikar, Chief Minister of Goa, after an illness borne with fortitude and dignity. An epitome of integrity and dedication in public life, his service to the people of Goa and of India will not be forgotten."
