A delegation of CPI-M led by politburo member Brinda Karat visited Tis Hazari Court on Monday to express solidarity with the lawyers who are on strike "demanding action against the police officers responsible for the violence" inside the court premises on November 2. A party release said that the delegation included Delhi State Secretary KM Tiwari and state secretariat members Nathu Prasad and Brijesh Kumar Singh.

CPI-M asks for Union Home Minister's intervention

"Delhi State Committee of CPI-M condemns the wide-scale violence perpetrated by Delhi Police against the lawyers in which lawyers' chambers have been destroyed and even women lawyers have been injured," the release said. The party said that police also unleashed "brutal lathi-charge and fired several rounds of bullets against the advocates". It said that the Delhi Police comes directly under the Home Ministry and Union Home Minister must intervene in the matter and ensure that action is taken against the police officials responsible for "the unprecedented violence".

Lawyers demanding Rs 10 lakh compensation

Two days after clashes took place in Delhi's Tis Hazari between cops and lawyers, advocates in the Delhi High Court and all district courts on Monday abstained from judicial work and are protesting. The lawyers did not participate and appeared in proceedings.

Speaking to Republic TV, President of New Delhi Bar Association RK Wadhwa who was protesting outside Patiala House court said, "It's not a question of demands being met. It's a question of why the Police personnel who are deployed in Court premises that too in Delhi can go to such an extent. It is not tolerable, it is barbaric. Persons involved should be terminated, they should be arrested. Not a single lawyers are involved in it. Lawyers are not at fault." They also demanded lawyers protection act and are demanding Rs. 10 lakh compensation.

Kejriwal visits gunshot victims at St Stephens hospital

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited St. Stephens Hospital and met gunshot victims of the Tis Hazari Court incident on Sunday. He condemned the incident as unfortunate and appalling and assured that the Delhi Government will bear expenses of the treatment of victims. Speaking to media, he said, "Shots were fired against lawyers, I condemn this incident in the strongest possible terms. Firing without reason is not the right thing. I just met two people who were shot; one at here (pointing to his chest) and the other at his hand. Their condition is stable and I've talked to the doctor. There's no sign of danger."
