Delhi: Air Quality remains 'severe' as heavy smog looms the capital

No relief for Delhiites as the national capital gasps under eye-burning smog and continues to reel with pollution as its air quality stays in 'very poor' to 'severe' categories. According to the Centre-led System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality in the national capital docked at 453 at around 12.30 pm on November 12. 

Locals react

According to locals, they are forced to wear masks as pollution is increasing. Some of them have also opined the government needs to take action and resolve the matter, while others argued that people have to take initiative in a bid to combat the menace. According to a local, "Our eyes are burning, we are having trouble breathing. People are forced to wear masks whenever they go outside." Another local stated that there is smog everywhere in the national capital.

Delhi's Air Quality worsens yet again

After a brief respite last week, Delhi's air quality has started rising again. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital is over 450 on November 12. An AQI between 0-50 is considered 'good', 51-100 'satisfactory', 101-200 'moderate', 201-300 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 'severe'. Above 500 falls in the 'severe-plus emergency' category.

Kejriwal stresses the dangers of stubble burning

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, November 11, urged the people of Haryana and Punjab to stop stubble burning. Taking to Twitter, Kejriwal said, "pollution in the national capital has again started increasing after some respite last week." He further stated that people in the national capital are suffering immensely due to the rising air pollution. "We should stop stubble burning," he said.
