Krishnamurthy Achar, a carpenter from Avinahalli village in Karnataka, has constructed a 19.5 ft long wooden fountain pen, with the hope of ushering in not only nostalgic memories, but also perhaps a bygone era. The heavy replica of the writing instrument weighs 250 kg. From the time it was put up on display, it has gathered a lot of attention.

"Crafted the pen in the memory of the fountain ink pens"

Talking about his passion for wooden pens, Achar said to ANI, “Fourteen years ago, I started to work on making wooden pens of different sizes. I have always been interested in fountain ink pens, now these classic pens have disappeared. In the memory of that era, I have crafted this pen." His creation comes at a time when the fountain pens are considered as ‘old-fashioned’. This fancy creation brings back the nostalgia of the days when these pens were in vogue.

Netizens have a mixed reaction about the wooden pen

Netizens have been in awe of Krishnamurthy’s creation. Reacting to the post on Twitter, appreciating the efforts of Krishnamurthy, one user commented, “hats off”, while another one wrote, “congratulations bro great work” A user even commented that Indians are creative in every field. As is the nature of things online, some users remained sceptical, perhaps indicating their proclivity for keyboards versus pens by asking “hope he will demonstrate the functioning of the pen” while another asked whether a tree had been cut down specifically for this purpose.
