'Honest, decisive and a forthright man': Paresh Rawal, Kirron Kher among others extend deepest condolences after Goa CM Manohar Parrikar's demise

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday after battling a prolonged illness. After the news of his sad demise broke, several personalities from the film fraternity in the likes of Kirron Kher, Paresh Rawal, Lata Mangeshkar,  Nimrat Kaur and Prasoon Joshi have extended their condolences and unfeigned tributes.

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar passed away on Sunday after battling a prolonged illness. He was 63 years old. Parrikar was suffering from a serious pancreatic ailment and was at his private residence at Dona Paula in Goa during his last hours. 

After the news of his sad demise broke, several personalities from the film fraternity in the likes of Kirron Kher, Paresh Rawal, Lata Mangeshkar,  Nimrat Kaur and Prasoon Joshi have extended their condolences and unfeigned tributes.

Posting a heartfelt tribute to the Goa CM, Kirron Kher wrote, "It is with a very heavy heart that I bid goodbye to one of the greatest leaders of we have seen in India. Rest in peace Mr #Parrikar. You will be remembered by one and all for your sincerity towards the nation!"

Stating that his death is a huge loss to our country, singer Lata Mangeshkar wrote, "Goa ke Mukhya Mantri Manohar Parrikar ji ke nidhan ki vaarta sunkar mujhe bahut dukh hua,unke aur hamare bahut acche sambandh the.Unke jaane se hamare desh ki bahut haani hui hai,ek atyant saccha insaan aur neta desh ne kho diya hai. Ishwar unki aatma ko shanti pradan kare"

Mourning the death of an 'honest and decisive man', Lok Sabha MP Paresh Rawal tweeted saying, "Saddened by the demise of Shri Manohar Parrikar Saab . An honest decisive and forthright man. Had a good fortune of interacting with him. We have lost a gem . Aum Shanti"

Nimrat Kaur  

Actress Nimrat Kaur expressing her deepest condolences wrote, " My prayers and strength to all his loved ones. #RIPManoharParrikar" 

Prasoon Joshi 

Calling him a true warrior, the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification Prasoon Josh said, "A man who served till the last breath . A true warrior. Respect .#ManoharParrikar" 

The condolence meeting will be held in the Union Cabinet at 11 am on Monday for the Goa Chief Minister. One of the senior most and respectable leaders in the political arena, Parrikar was an alumnus of IIT Bombay before he stepped foot into politics. He was first elected into Goa Assembly in 1984.

He first became the CM of Goa in 2000 and was in the post for two years.

In the elections which followed in 2002, he was re-elected, but had to step down in 2005 after his government lost the majority. 

Manohar Parrikar then began his third term as Goa CM in 2012 after his party won the state elections. He held the post for two years, before stepping down to take over as the Defence Minister from Arun Jaitley, who took over as the Finance Minister.During his time as the Minister of Defence, Parrikar was credited with improving the sector through his diligent decision-making ability. He ceded his position to become the Goa CM again after BJP formed a coalition government in the state following election
