A student of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday, October 29, by jumping off a building in the campus at Kandi in Sangareddy district near the State capital. According to the police, the third-year student identified as Sidharth jumped off the building around 3:23 AM. He was rushed to a hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Police have registered a case

"Sidharth had written a suicide note and sent it to his friends through email. In the note, he had said that he was going to commit suicide because he was lagging behind in studies," Circle Inspector Shiva Yadav told news agency ANI over the phone. The body has been shifted to Gandhi hospital for post mortem. Police have registered a case and started investigation in the matter.

According to the reports, the note read, “There is a critic within me questioning my every move to the extent that I feel I shouldn’t exist. I shouldn’t exist because I am a self-obsessed guy. I was brought up that way, being compared with my peers all the time. Life rather seems depressing. Never-ending strands of misfortune to an extent that I mentally couldn’t tolerate it. I have no clue how my future is going to be. I have been feeling this for the past two months.”

The third incident in campus within a year

This is the third incident in the IIT-Hyderabad campus within a year. In July, Mark Andrew Charles, a second-year Masters’ student from Uttar Pradesh, committed suicide by hanging himself in his hostel room. In his suicide note, Charles said that he may not get good marks and that there is “no future for failures” in the world. Anirudhya Mummaneni, a third-year student, jumped off the hostel building in February.
