On the occasion of India's 73rd Independence Day on August 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort, New Delhi. He started his speech after hoisting the national flag and went on to remark on the shift in the mood of the common people from the 2014 to 2019 elections. "If the period between 2014 to 2019 was a period of fulfillment of people's requirements, then the period after 2019 is a period to fulfill their dreams, the Prime Minister said.

In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi stated that the national sentiment has improved from despair to hopefulness in the last five years. Informing that he went all over the country to understand the 'feelings' of the common people, he said, "In 2014, there was disappointment on everyone's face, people used to think 'can this country change?' Now they were thinking, 'yes even I can change the nation.'"
"The collective confidence of 130 crore people gave us the impetus we needed. We started with the motto of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vishwas', the enthused people of India gave us the confidence. This time no one political party was fighting elections, no MP, no Modi. It was the people of India fighting for their dreams, their aspirations," he further added.

Going on to speak about the government's 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' vision, Prime Minister Modi said, "We are also working to provide inclusive development to Adivasis, minorities and all sections of the society. We have a plan for the next five years and are implementing them one by one."
This is PM Modi's first Independence Day speech after winning a magnificent mandate in elections 2019, securing 353 seats. The 2019 elections saw high-octane electric campaigning from both sides as the BJP went hammer and tongs, expressing confidence at each turn that it would not only repeat but also better its tally of 282 votes from five years earlier.
