In an impressive feat, a temple elephant from Tamil Nadu has learned to play a mouth organ.

The elephant whose name is Lakshmi is participating in the annual temple elephant rejuvenation camp in Thekkampatti in Mettupalayam in Coimbatore has been captured in this striking video playing the mouth organ.

However, Lakshmi's Mahout Balan has said she has broken several mouth organs before picking up the skill to play it.

He said that he persisted with his training and she gradually started learning the skill.

"I had to struggle a lot to train Lakshmi to play the mouth organ. She had broken the mouth organ 3-4 times that I had given her earlier but I did not give up. I kept on trying and slowly she started learning it," he said.

The rejuvenation camp for elephants had begun in 2003. It was started by late AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa. It was not helped between 2006 and 2011. However, once she came back to power, the camp for temple tuskers began once again.

In 2018, another temple elephant, Andaal, had become internet's darling for his mouth organ-playing skills.
