Mehbooba Mufti writes to PM Modi, asks him to take up opening of Shardapeeth pilgrimage with Imran Khan

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi asking for a pilgrimage to Shardapeeth. The former Jammu and Kashmir CM has said that the opening of the Kartarpur Corridor has given them an opportunity to open up the pilgrimage to Shardapeeth.

In a letter accessed first by Republic TV, Mufti has said that to open up the holy place would also be the first step to rediscovering avenues of peace and prosperity. She has requested PM Modi to consider the request of Kashmiri Pandits. 

"The Shardapeeth in Pakistan administered Kashmir is an outstanding relic of Kashmir's glowing history. Though it generally connects the people here with their cultural and intellectual roots, for the Kashmiri Pandits it is an important place of pilgrimage which was frequented by them till independence. Their urge to open it to pilgrimage has been projected ever since reopening of Srinagar Muzaffarabad road.

She also said that the reported offer of Pakistan Prime Minister Mr Imran Khan to allow the Shardapeeth along with the pilgrimage to Katas Raj has strengthened the belief of Kashmiri Pandits.

Kartarpur has encouraged the Pandit community to see a possibility of the pilgrimage to Shardapeeth in the same spirit and our belief is strengthened by the reported offer of Pakistan Prime Minister Mr Imran Khan to allow it along with pilgrimage to Katas Raj. A delegation of the committee of Pandits fighting for opening of Shardapeeth pilgrimage met me the other day to press for pleading the case with you.

Here is the letter Mufti wrote to the PM:

Earlier Mufti had tweeted about the demand to reopen the Shardapeeth pilgrimage following the Kartarpur Corridor opening. "Kartarpur is a great example of how religion can bring people together instead of dividing them. It is a path envisioned by PDP founder Mufti Sahab to end the turmoil in Kashmir. After Kartarpur, Delhi and Pakistan must facilitate Shardapeeth pilgrimage for Kashmiris,"she tweeted.
